From Thanksgiving Day to Gratitude month—wherever you turn during this time, you are reminded to be thankful.
Whether you use the word, “thanksgiving” or “gratitude,” the concept is the same. It is important.
The Invitation to Be Thankful
This is an invitation to pause and consider who you are, what you have and who you have in your life. Sometimes this is comparative gratitude—“I’m thankful I have more than,” or “I am not like.” Who you are and the rest are defined in relation to other people and their circumstances.
However, the best gratitude is gratitude that stands on its own merit. “This is who I am. This is what I have. This is my situation. These are the people in my life. I’m grateful for it all.”
When you look at it this way, you realize that each day is a day of thanksgiving and gratitude. How are you doing? It depends, doesn’t it? That’s why it is good to receive reminders and a time to focus on the need to be thankful.
It’s easy to become consumed and/or distracted by all that we have in our lives; by all that is going on around us. So, November rocks. Be thankful.
Thus, we are in November and as we gear up for Thanksgiving, we put on our extra thanksgiving gear. How are you doing?
How Do You Show Your, “Be Thankful?”
Think of all the things for which you are thankful. How do you show it? When it comes to people, how much time do you spend with them? When it comes to your home, how much time do you spend in it?
Many people have homes but don’t enjoy them. They are on the go all the time. Your cell phones mean that you don’t have to be at home to take the calls. You can take them anywhere. Even when you go out to eat, there’s that cell phone. It encroaches on the quality of your time with those in your life for whom you are thankful.
Of course, cell phones are not the only demands on your time. It’s just the obvious culprit.
Here is the question for you in this gratitude month: How can you express thankfulness in a way that shows you put a premium on you and those around you?
Thank you for reading this . . .
And, even though we’re half-way through, Happy Gratitude Month! Be Thankful!
